Goodbye to an Icon

“Anything is possible with sunshine and a little pink.”

-Lilly Pulitzer (1931-2013)

Lilly Pulitzer died at 81, this past Sunday.  She was a Palm Beach socialite and clothing designer, known for her bright, tropical prints. Her story began when she opened up a juice stand selling orange juice and started noticing all the splash stains on her clothes at the end of the day.  She wanted bright and busy enough prints that would camouflage those marks, and keep her looking fresh and fabulous all day.  And it was then that the “Queen of Prep” was born.  Needless to say, she stopped squeezing oranges and her wildly successful designs went on to be worn by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Caroline Kennedy, and members of the Rockefeller, Vanderbilt and Whitney families.

Lilly, I’m just discovering you now, 5 days after you’ve passed, and I am instantly a fan.  You are an inspiration!
